Evidence Based Practice
What current research shows…
Clinical / preventative screening for runners. Orthopaedic Division Review, Canadian Physiotherapy Association; March/April 2006. Walsh, M.
• Investigates an comprehensive preventative program for running athletes of all levels
• Reviews clinical tests used to screen running related problems, applications for prevention of running injury
• Functional analysis includes foot contact time, pronation angle, cadence and dynamic pelvic stability while running on the treadmill
• Squat and jump tests are good predictors for lower quadrant alignment in loading response during running.
• Flexibility is helpful in determining asymmetry and in particular its contribution to lumbo/pelvic control or foot pronation
• Low load and endurance based stability testing helps with understanding directional patterns of substitution, important information in the prevention of foot and knee repetitive strain injuries
